Too few are aware of the rich Orthodox tradition of the Latin-speaking West, prior to the fall of Rome into heresy. The life of St. Benedict, founder of the Benedictine monastic tradition in the West, is truly that of an Orthodox saint, and finds a place in the great Menology of St. Dimitry, from which it is here translated. The service and akathist hymn in his honor provide eloquent testimony to his place in the life of the Orthodox Church.
